The Town of Cobourg is one hour East of Toronto
via Highway 401 and is on the shore of Lake Ontario,
in Ontario, Canada. Go to
Google
for a map on how to get here. Additional maps - current and historical - can be found
here.
The History of Cobourg has
been well documented and now a large amount of this
is on the web - see the site
CobourgHistory.ca.
The major feature of Cobourg is the waterfront on
Lake Ontario where there is a
Marina (run
by the Town of Cobourg), Yacht club, sandy beach and
an extensive Park area. The photo at the top of each
page on this site shows the Harbour Entrance.

One of the
legacies of the boom in the mid 1800's is Victoria Hall
(above). After restoration in ~1980, it now plays a key
role in the town with a Council meeting room, Art Gallery
and Concert Hall.
More.
In 2006, according to the Census, Cobourg's population
was 18,210 and English was the mother language for
93% of us.
And of course, being in the heart
of UEL territory,
the Canada Day parade is a big affair and is led by
the Cobourg Concert band. Photos of them are often
featured on the photo page.
The history of this band goes back a long way
(more)
and every year, they participate in joint Historical
re-enactments in New York state.
The next major event is the Waterfront Festival
- June 28 to July 1st. Their
web site here.
On November 18th, Cobourg staged its annual Santa
parade. As usual, the last float features Santa. The
parade has lots of kids both watching and in the parade
plus bands both local and visiting.
Earlier, on the Labour Day Weekend, the Annual Shelter
valley Folk Festival had a strong lineup. One photo
at right.
On
July 28, 2007, a large group of antique cars from many
places all over Ontario plus as far away as Florida
had their summer "convention" in Cobourg.
Above are some of them gathered on the lawn between
the harbour and some of the new condos.
Visitors
to our Harbour include the occasional "tall ship".
