Children's charity spring concert a celebration of 6 years of free music education

song spring concert posterOn Saturday, April 27, 2019, Northumberland County's children's charity, Sounds of the Next Generation, will come together for its sixth spring concert with a focus on family far and wide.

"Global Family, Local Family" will feature the 70 members of SONG's choirs and strings ensemble, alongside their adult mentor choir Safe Harbour, performing a variety of songs that reflect how our world is changing, and has been connected in so many new ways, as people travel to new places and adapt to new customs.

Susan Passmore of The Good Lovelies will be performing with the children their newly co-created composition "We're On Fire," and violinist Saskia Tomkins will be performing with SONG's youngest singers. A beautifully arranged program offers a variety of music from Beethoven and Mozart, to songs by Royal Canoe, John Rutter, Stephen Hatfield, Raffi, and The Wailin' Jennies. Music also sung in Arabic and Spanish reflects a world changing and adapting to new circumstances.

Safe Harbour is comprised of 16 singers from across Northumberland County that was established to provide inspiration and mentorship for the young singers, which is a pillar of the internationally-known El Sistema model that inspires SONG to support children's social development through music education.

Join us Saturday, April 27, 2019 at 3:00pm at Trinity United Church in Cobourg for SONG's 6th Annual Spring Concert, Global Family, Local Family. Doors open at 2:15 pm.
