Next Spring, the Habitat for Humanity Northumberland ReStore, which is currently at 45 Ewart Street, will be moving to the Home Hardware building on Division Street which will be vacant when the new Home Hardware store is completed – expected around January 2016.  Their current location is in the Northam Industrial Park which is out of the way for shoppers.  The profits from their operation go to support the homebuilding program of Habitat for Humanity across Northumberland County.  They sell a wide variety of donated building supplies – usually used.

The new store will be larger and ReStore plans to “stock even more and larger products, including full kitchens and furniture, to cater to contractors and do-it-yourself shoppers”.

restoreExisting ReStore on Ewart StreetThey are a charitable organization and they sell “new and gently used home improvement supplies including construction materials, home furnishings, appliances and the kitchen sink!”  In their press release they state that:

The ReStore is open to the public Monday to Friday (9am to 6pm) and Saturday (9am-5pm). The entire product in the ReStore is donated and sold at discounted prices with no HST. Every dollar spent in the ReStore is ultimately helping a local family achieve the dream of homeownership.

As the ReStore team prepares for the move, the ReStore at 45 Ewart St. will remain open and continue to serve the communities’ needs.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with planning or executing the move is encouraged to contact Laurie Carrol at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or 905-373-4663 ext. 27.

The move will reduce the number of tenants that the Town of Cobourg has in their Industrial Park – they call the Town a “partner” which implies that  Cobourg is giving them some form of deal on their rent.  This is appropriate given their charitable status.  They also say that “Habitat has officially entered into a business partnership with the owner of the building at 764 Division St., Dave Butchart,” So presumably there is some form of discount or profit sharing at their new location as well.  Smart for both sides.
