This summer, Cobourg is renting out bicycles.  They started at the beginning of July and are using the empty booth originally intended for a Youth entrepreneur (there is only one in use).  It’s right alongside the Information Booth on the beach boardwalk behind the Beach Gazebo.  The only publicity given till now has been via “Social Media” and the fact that it’s quite visible if you are at the Beach.  Today (Friday) there were 5 bikes rented out before noon.  Today the Town issued a Press release so maybe now there will be more publicity.

According to the Town, the bike rental program is a partnership between the Town of Cobourg, Northumberland Tourism, Cycle Transitions (Cobourg’s do it yourself bike shop) and Clark Summerville Sporting Goods. Each bike rental includes a helmet, lock and a map of the Town of Cobourg complete with an West Route (11km – to Monk’s Cove), a East Route (10km – to Lucas Point) and the Waterfront Trail (8km).  (Download here – see also below)  The map is provided as part of a small flyer (Download here).

Hours are 10:00am – 6:00pm, July and August.  I’d guess that’s because that’s when students are available even though cycling is popular in May through September.  Prices are $15 for a half day, $25 for a full day and $45 for a two day rental.  Cobourg’s Tourism site has a page on this program here.

For many more routes throughout Northumberland, see the County web page here. There’s a lot more for cyclists there.
