Special Notes re Covid-19

Transit will be free until at least the end of November - no charge.  There will be 2 weeks notice when this ends. Entry and exit by rear-door only. Masks required on both Conventional and Wheels Transit.  Also in Bus shelters.

Additional Changes:

Conventional Transit

  • Limit of eight (8) people maximum per bus to allow for sufficient social distancing (except family members)
  • Passengers must sit at least two (2) meters away from others, including the driver. (except family members)
  • Riders must have a destination drop-off within one (1) hour that is not the location they got on the bus.
  • The windows on the bus will be kept open to promote air circulation.

WHEELS Transit

  • Limit of transporting one (1) person per trip or multiple people from same household.
  • Re-occurring (prescription) bookings will temporarily be canceled.
  • Bookings can only be made up to two (2) days in advance.
  • Members will be asked the following pre-screening questions upon booking:
    • Have you received public health or medical advice to self-monitor or self-isolate?
    • Are you presenting with fever, or new onset of cough or difficulty breathing?
    • Have you travelled outside of Canada in the past 14 days?
    • Did you have close contact with a confirmed or probable case of COVID-19?
    • Did you have close contact with anyone who has traveled outside of Canada in the past 14 days?

Citizens who need to book an appointment with WHEELS Transit are asked to only call during the hours of Monday to Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (905) 373-0582. Bookings for Saturday, Sunday or Monday must be made by Friday at 5 p.m. until further notice. Please avoid leaving a message as staffing may be reduced and response times delayed.

Transit BusTransit Tickets may be purchased for $16.00/10 in Victoria Hall and at the Public Library.


Monthly passes *

Monthly passes include a photo ID, riders name, date of purchase and expiration. These can be purchased in the Finance Department at Victoria Hall. Photos of each rider are saved so riders do not need to take a new photo each month.

Monday to Friday - 7:15 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.

Saturday - 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.

Days without service

These notes are updated as they change - see date at top of page for latest update date.

The Transit bus (and Wheels service) does not run on the following days: New Year's Day, Easter Friday, Labour Day, Christmas Day.

Transit will run on Canada Day Holiday from 10:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m. only.

Hours on Thanksgiving Monday will be regular hours (6:15 a.m. to 7:45 p.m.) - No service in 2020

Hours for August Civic Holiday will be reduced - 8:15 am to 5:15 pm

Hours on Christmas Eve and New years Eve will be 6:15 am to 3:30 pm - ending at the Mall.

Hours on Victoria Day: 8:15 a.m. to 5:15 p.m.

Port Hope Shuttle

The bus from Port Hope arrives every half hour at 10 minutes and 40 minutes past the hour at Northumberland Mall. The Shuttle fare is $2.00. You can transfer to a Cobourg bus for $1.00 or ride the Port Hope bus to the Hospital (:14  & :44) or WalMart (:15 & :45) - bus then goes back to Port Hope. Port Hope riders can get on the shuttle at Port Hope Town Hall (56 Queen Street) on the half hour and hour during business hours. For more info call 905-885-2431

Shuttle Schedule

Monday - Friday At the Mall every half hour 10 & 40 minutes past the hour from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (last shuttle - 7:40 p.m.).

Saturday At the Mall every half hour 10 & 40 minutes past the hour from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (last shuttle - 3:40 p.m.).

No Shuttle Service on Sundays or Statutory Holidays.


Cobourg WheelsFor Individuals that cannot take conventional transit - must complete form and be approved. Download and complete and submit this form.


WHEELS Hours of Service

Effective 2 November, 2020, the WHEELS program will now operate for its full service hours.

Citizens who need to book an appointment with WHEELS Transit are required to call 24 to 48 hours in advance of travelling during the hours of Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at (905) 373-0582.

For more information on the Cobourg WHEELS program please contact the Public Works Division by calling (905) 372-4555  (May not be possible during Covid-19 crisis).

Fare - No charge during Covid-19 crisis  (to at least 26 October) - normally $2.00 for each trip; Exact change, transit tickets or monthly passes accepted.

Airport Service

A daily shuttle to Toronto Airport is provided by MegaBus.  Their prices are $35 each way and you pick them up at Harveys in Port Hope off Hwy 28 just north of the 401.  They leave Port Hope daily at 2:30pm and 5:30pm and the time elapsed is 1hr 30m.  You must book online here.  Only one large checked bag is allowed. Return times from Pearson are 12:00 noon,  6:30 pm and 9:00 pm. Return elapsed time is also 1hr 30m.  More info at their web site.
