Beginning May 2015, residents will be able to put out leaf and yard waste for curbside collection. Over the next two years, the County will assess demand levels and rates of diversion from landfills. This is a pilot program: all areas deemed to benefit from this seasonal collection will receive ongoing collection service. Leaf and yard waste collection is part of a plan to reach a long-term goal of 75% diversion from local landfills.
There will be a once per month pick up of leaf & yard waste right at the curb on a routine schedule, from May to November (see below).
Residents are asked to “please have your brush, leaves and grass clippings out at the curb by no later than 7 a.m. on your designated day, in kraft paper bags or bundled brush.
Each bundle must be tied, no longer than 3ft, contain no materials larger than 2” in diameter and weigh less than 40lbs. There is no limit to the quantity of leaf & yard waste that residents can place out for collection.
Residents must set out any leaf and yard waste by 7 a.m. on their designated day. It will be collected at some point during that week. Please note that the leaf and yard waste collection is separate from your garbage and recycling service. Your collection day for garbage and recycling remains unchanged.
For most Cobourg residents, the pickup dates will be per Area 2; if you live in Hamilton Township West of CR #45, then you are in Area 3.
The dates for 2016 are as shown below:
